Pretty good for forecasting

I tried out their TimeGPT for a predictive maintenance model I was building. It was actually pretty easy to get going with the Python SDK. The results looked decent, better than what I was getting before. I liked that I could use it for free initially. Overall, it felt like a solid tool for what I needed.

Nixtla is a lifesaver!

TimeGPT is absolutely incredible! The accuracy for my financial time series analysis was mind-blowing. I got started with the free API credits and now I'm hooked. This product will change how I approach all my forecasting tasks. I'm telling everyone in my team about it. Can't wait to explore more features!

Solid product, minor billing quirk

I recently subscribed to TimeGPT for some long-horizon forecasting. The model's performance was quite impressive, and the documentation for the Python SDK was clear and helpful. However, the billing for API usage felt a bit opaque at first; it took a moment to understand how the credits translated into actual costs. I think better real-time usage tracking within the dashboard would be an improvement. Still, the accuracy and speed made it worthwhile for my project.

Good value with free credits

I was looking for a cost-effective solution for short-term forecasting and decided to try Nixtla's TimeGPT. The free API credits were a huge plus, letting me test it thoroughly without upfront cost. I was able to integrate it into my existing workflow using the Python SDK and the results were very accurate. It felt like I got a lot of value, especially starting with the trial. Definitely worth it for budget-conscious users.

My company is tiny, like 5 people. Would we even qualify for a 'startup discount' or is that just for venture-backed bigshots?

J Justin 3 weeks ago
Nah, give it a shot. Startup programs usually have pretty broad definitions. Worst they can say is no.

I think as long as you're a new company and not like, a division of a huge corp, you'd probably be considered. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Thinking of moving our forecasting to Nixtla, but worried about billing. Is it just pay-as-you-go based on API calls, or are there hidden fees or monthly minimums?

J Jacob Allen 1 month ago
It's mostly usage-based, from what I recall. No crazy hidden stuff, but keep an eye on your API call volume.

AFAIK, it's pretty transparent. You get charged for what you use. They have different tiers, but it's not like you're locked into a huge minimum if you don't use it.

Hey, thinking about trying TimeGPT for a project. Any idea how much the free credits actually get you? Like, enough for some real testing or just a tiny demo?

E Emma 2 weeks ago
Yeah, it's pretty decent for testing. I ran a few hundred forecasts and still had some left. Enough to see if it's right for your use case for sure.

M Michelle Harris 2 weeks ago
Depends on your data scale, but I'd say it's more than just a tiny demo. You can actually get some meaningful work done to evaluate it before needing to pay.

What's the deal with their open source libraries? Can I just use them for a commercial app without paying anything, or are there catches?

A Aaron Wilson 1 month ago
Yup, the open source stuff like StatsForecast is totally free for commercial use. That's the whole point of open source!

J Justin Gomez 4 weeks ago
You're good to go. The open source libraries are separate from the paid TimeGPT API. Just make sure you understand the licenses, but generally, you can use them freely.

Is Nixtla's TimeGPT better than Amazon Forecast for demand forecasting? Or like, what's the real difference if you've used both?

J Jennifer Adams 1 month ago
From my experience, TimeGPT is much faster to get going, especially for a quick proof of concept. Amazon Forecast can be a beast to configure sometimes.

B Barbara Hernandez 1 month ago
I found TimeGPT to be more accurate on my specific retail data, but it really depends on your dataset. Amazon's got a ton of options though.

I'm looking to fine-tune a model for some really specific industrial data. Does Nixtla offer custom training, or is it just the out-of-the-box TimeGPT?

C Chris 5 days ago
They do offer custom model training. I remember reading about it for enterprise clients, so if your use case is complex, it's an option.

S Sandra Phillips 3 days ago
Yeah, they have 'fine-tuning services' mentioned. It's probably more for larger customers, but they definitely offer that kind of tailored stuff.

I'm a student working on a research paper, does Nixtla have any special deals for academics or is it full price for everyone?

A Amber Gonzalez 2 weeks ago
Pretty sure they have academic discounts. I remember seeing something about it on their site or in their FAQs.

M Michael W. 2 weeks ago
Yeah, check their site. Most AI companies have some kind of program for students and researchers, might be worth reaching out directly too.
